THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO - Children In Need Week!
November 16, 2005 - Vol 8, No 46
The weekly guide to Doctor Who broadcasts worldwide.

Wednesday 16 November:
NRK 2 Norway - 8:20PM - Sjokkartet Møte Med Fortiden
Friday 18 November:
BBC One 9:06PM GMT/BBC Prime/BFBS 1 & Navy live simulcast - Children In Need Doctor Who sketch 2005
Jimmy (Italy) - 9PM - The End Of The World
Saturday 19 November:
France 4 - 10:20PM - Troisième Guerre Mondiale/Dalek
Christmas Day:
BBC One - Christmas Special Episode The Christmas Invasion
Friday night at 9:06PM GMT (tentative, and adjust for your own time
zone), a Doctor Who segment (apparently starring Billie Piper and
David Tennant) airs as part of Children In Need 2005 (7PM to 1AM
GMT). The fundraiser has previously been home to the UK premiere
of The Five Doctors in 1983 and the 1993 charity
special "Dimensions In Time".
As noted in previous weeks, Children In Need airs live on BBC One, BBC Prime*, and 2 BFBS stations (BFBS 1 and BFBS Navy) to serve British military personnel.
It escaped my attention, but there are *2* BBC Primes with very different TV schedules. The traditional BBC Prime http://www.bbcprime.com serves Europe, Africa, Greenland, Iceland, and the Middle East. BBC Prime Asia http://www.bbcprime.com/asia has a schedule that looks like BBC Japan http://www.bbcjapan.tv . BBC Prime Asia will NOT be airing Children In Need. Countries with BBC Prime Asia are: Brunei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand If you are in one of those countries and were looking forward to the Doctor Who scene (along with the rest of Children In Need), you're out of luck.
BBC Prime Asia's FAQ section has the same information on Doctor Who as the original BBC Prime - they expect to get it in the future, but not right now. It is entirely possible that down the road both BBC Prime channels could pick up Doctor Who, probably not airing it at the same time, and certainly causing confusion for people who don't know which Prime they have.
BBC America http://www.bbcamerica.com and BBC Canada http://www.bbccanada.ca will not air the Children In Need special. If you don't have BBC One, the main version of BBC Prime, or the BFBS service, you will not be able to watch Children In Need and the Doctor Who sketch.
UKTV Gold http://www.ukgold.tv has made another change to their new series Doctor Who repeats. Effective immediately, the Wednesday night 11PM repeats have been pulled off the air. Repeats continue Fridays at 8PM, Saturdays at 6PM, Sunday afternoons (time varies), and late Sunday nights (time varies). Hopefully this will be the last schedule change in this run of the series - 2 demotions in 2 weeks is a little disappointing.
BBC7 http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7 has announced the acquisition of 2
more Big Finish Doctor Who audios for their radio station. These are
being added after the success of the first 4 Paul McGann audios
presented on their station, a run that ends this Saturday with the
conclusion of "Invaders From Mars".
1) Shada (2003). On Saturday 10 December the usual 3 hour Comedy Controller spot (9AM & 8PM GMT) will be given to Shada, a 2003 co-production between the BBCi Doctor Who website and Big Finish. Shada was a unique effort to remake the unfinished 1979 Tom Baker story Shada, keeping Douglas Adams' script but adding a few tweaks to try to make both versions official. Paul McGann as the 8th Doctor, Lalla Ward as Romana, and John Leeson as K9.
2) "The Chimes Of Midnight". On Saturday 17 December (Time TBA) the
next Paul McGann/India Fisher Doctor Who audio story after "Invaders
From Mars" will make its radio premiere. The Chimes Of Midnight has
a Christmas theme.
The BBC Press Office http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice and C21 Media
http://www.c21media.net often announce when a Doctor Who
international sale occurs. Worth keeping an eye on, just in case.
